Innovation trends: looking back at the Legadex Round Tables 2019

Legal services are changing faster than ever, with new ways of working gaining ground and the use of advanced technology becoming increasingly the norm. The Legadex round table events focus on innovations of interest to the corporate legal, financial and investment communities. Held at great locations mostly in and around Amsterdam, participation is free. Below is an overview of the six events we ran in 2019. 24 January 2019: Legal Operations, ACC, DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, Amsterdam

Almost 100 General Counsel from national and international companies gathered in the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Amsterdam. The event, organised by Legadex and the Association for Corporate Counsel (ACC), saw specialists in the field of Legal Operations share their experiences on optimising legal services within organisations. The speakers included well-known names such as Liam Brown, founder of American legal service provider Elevate Services, Hans Albers, President of ACC Europe and Chief of Staff of Juniper Networks, and Klaas Evelein, Global Legal Operations Director of Unilever.

9 May 2019: Data Analytics & M&A, ZyLAB, Hotel Metropole, Brussels

Legadex and AI specialist ZyLAB (e-discovery and information governance) are close partners, especially on M&A projects, which typically involve the rapid analysis and reporting of large amounts of information. At this meeting, ZyLAB and Legadex explored with Belgian General Counsel how AI technology and Data Analytics work, using real-world examples from Legadex that demonstrated the application possibilities, and its time, quality and cost benefits.

15 May 2019: M&A: Don't forget Cyber Security, Fox IT, Loetje aan ’t IJ, Amsterdam

Romano Herrie of Fox IT discussed the huge potential impact of cybercrime on M&A deals and the various ways to manage this risk during a transaction and afterwards.

20 June 2019: Legal Operations and Technology, HighQ and Louis Dreyfus Company, de Veranda, Amsterdam

General Counsel are increasingly looking for opportunities to organise their departments more effectively. Result: knowledge of Legal Operations is fast becoming a core competence of the legal policy. Rob MacAdam of HighQ and Anne Raymond of Louis Dreyfus Company shared their experiences regarding these developments in Legal Operations and the use of smart platforms within the corporate legal department.

17 October 2019: Legal Operations follow-up session, HighQ and HelloFresh, de Veranda, Amsterdam

When it comes to streamlining their activities with the help of technology, legal departments are fast taking matters into their own hands. Rob MacAdam of HighQ gave a detailed demonstration of how the technology actually works. Michael Sturm, Head of Corporate and Deputy General Counsel of HelloFresh shared his experiences and vision on Legal Operations and how HelloFresh implements this.

14 November 2019: The M&A process and after – emotion or data, IntegrationPeople, Loetje aan de Amstel, Amstelveen

Integration specialists Harold de Bruijn and Evert Oosterhuis of IntegrationPeople talked with 25 General Counsel, lawyers and PE professionals about smarter ways to handle business data during transaction preparations, carve-outs, due diligence and business integration.
